Chiropractic is considered to be the largest, natural, primary health care profession in the world. It is also the most utilized Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM). Used by millions of patients world wide each year, chiropractic is one of the most praised, yet misunderstood practices of the health care disciplines. As BJ Palmer once said, “We chiropractors work with the subtle substance of the soul” (Rondberg 1998). Although difficult to understand, this statement illustrates chiropractics goal of dealing simplyin with our complex nervous system, focusing on a wellness paradigm.
Instead of focusing on curing diseases, the holistic approach to chiropractic aims to be preventative, and is applicable to humans throughout the entire course of their lives.
Neck pain can significantly impact a person’s quality of life and daily activities.
Before beginning treatment it is very important to let your chiropractor know if you are experiencing any of the following:
Neck pain or pain in the back of the head of a very sharp quality and severe intensity. The pain is sudden and unlike any pain you have experienced before.
If you’ve had a severe and persistent head ache that came on suddenly and is worse than any headache you have ever experienced.
If you are having difficulty speaking, swallowing, walking, holding objects, your vision is blurred or you have a loss of balance.
These things need to be brought to your chiropractor’s attention, as they are red flags and could mean a lot more than just “neck pain”.
Approximately 20% of Canadians experience neck pain at some point in their lives.
